Practical, first-hand advice from our team based at Tivat Airport — the kind that doesn't make it into guidebooks.
Tivat Airport (TIV) is small and arrivals empty quickly. In July and August, immigration for non-Schengen passengers can add 20–40 minutes. Our pickup point is in Parking P1, directly opposite the terminal exit — look for the Good Choice sign. If your flight is delayed, send us a WhatsApp message; we monitor arrivals and wait at no extra charge.
Tivat → Budva (20 km): The tunnel under Vrmac is the fastest — under 20 minutes, toll-free. Avoid the old coastal road on summer evenings; it backs up from Bigova to Petrovac.
Tivat → Kotor (12 km, ~25 min): An easy drive around the bay. Take the scenic detour via Lustica Bay on the way back — the views of Boka Kotorska are worth it.
Tivat → Dubrovnik (75 km): Two border options — Karasovići and Debeli Brijeg. In summer (June–August), Debeli Brijeg queues can run 1–3 hours on weekends. Cross before 08:00 or after 19:00 to avoid the wait.
Kotor: No cars inside the old city walls. The main parking is along the bay wall ("Parking Škaljari") — €2–3/hour in summer. Arrive before 09:00 or walk 10 minutes from the outer zone.
Budva: Street parking in the center is nearly impossible in July–August. Use the paid garage on Mediteranska Street (Parking Montenegro operated). Rates around €2/hour.
Sveti Stefan: The island is pedestrian only. Park along the main road (free, 300 m walk) or use the small paid lot at the top of the hill.
There are no fuel stations on the road from Žabljak (Durmitor) toward Šavnik and south. Fill up in Žabljak before heading toward Piva Canyon or Nikšić. The same applies around Lake Skadar — the last station before the lake road is in Rijeka Crnojevića.
NIS Petrol and EKO are the main chains across the country. Current diesel price is approximately €1.50/L; fuel is sold at the national regulated pump price.
Call us directly on +382 67 803 548 — we coordinate roadside assistance 24/7. For police, the Montenegro emergency number is 122.
Main coastal roads (E65, E80) are in good condition year-round. Mountain roads — Lovćen serpentines and tracks around Durmitor — have tight switchbacks and some unpaved sections. For those routes, the Dacia Duster 4×4 is the right call.
Winter tyres are required by law from 15 November to 31 March. Our fleet is equipped accordingly — no action needed on your side.
A valid EU driving licence is accepted. Non-EU drivers need an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their national licence. Passport or ID is required at the border. Montenegro is not in the EU — a Green Card (international insurance certificate) is required if you cross into Croatia or Bosnia. We issue it with your rental at no extra cost.
